|Dr. Ilmars Mezs is the Head of the IOM office in Riga since 1998. He also served as a migration program and training officer at IOM in Kyiv, Ukraine. He has been an advisor to the Special Assignments Minister for Social (Ethnic) Integration and an expert, among others, to the Society Integration Foundation, and the Governmental working group towards the ratification of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. He has written many articles on society integration, minorities, demography and migration issues. Dr. Mezs holds a bachelor degree in Geography from the University of Latvia, a master degree in Geography from the Western Michigan University, USA, and a doctoral degree in History of Latvia from the University of Latvia.
