|Ms. Gemma Pinyol is Head of Projects at InStrategies and associate researcher at CIDOB-Barcelona Center for International Affairs and at GRITIM-Pompeu Fabra University. She graduated from Autonomous University of Barcelona with a BA in Political and Public Administration Sciences and received her MA in International Relations. She has been served as Head of Cabinet of the Spanish Secretariat of Immigration and Emigration and Head of the Research Programme on International Migration at CIDOB. She was been involved in several European projects such as MIPEX-Migrant Integration Policy Index (MPG, 2006-2008), the European Task Force on Irregular Migration (IFRI,2009-2011) and the coordination of RECI-Spanish Network on Intercultural Cities, an ongoing project of Pompeu Fabra University and the Council of Europe. Among her latest publications: “Migration policies: controls and restrictions” (in The Encyclopedia of Global Human Migration. Blackwell Publishing, 2013); “The Migration-Security Nexus in Short: Instruments and Actions in the European Union” (in Amsterdam Law Forum, Vol. 4-1, 2012) and “¿Una oportunidad perdida? La construcción de un escenario euroafricano de migraciones” (in Fronteras en movimiento: Migraciones en el contexto UE-Mediterráneo. Barcelona: Bellaterra, 2012). Her main areas of interest are the external dimension of migration policies and the Spanish and EU migration instruments.
